Some of the family rumors that have been corrected by discovered documents

  1. --Nathan went to America in 1896-97 to earn money, leaving home his wife with their newly-born son David. For five years, he worked in New York, economized everything and sent all his earnings back to his wife. When he returned - all the money where already wasted. We do not know what his wife did with the money. Natan took this very hard.-- Recently (aug 2020) discovered documents show that Nota did go to US in 1890, before he married Ita. At this point we speculate that Nota possibly went to US twice. Also so far we could not find any documents proving his second trip around 1896, there is some circumstantial evidence
    a) Nota's brother Aaron came to US in 1899 and wrote that he came to stay with his brother. It could be yet another son of Girsh, we do not know anything about, but more likely it was Nota. We know that Aaron was close with Nota and named his son after him after Nota's death.
    b) The only picture of Nota was made in NY by Joseph Goldberg. We have done research on that studio. It was in business at least since 1896, but there is no evidence of it earlier. This means it is more likely Nota made the picture during his second trip.

  2. --Nota had two sons, who left with him to USA and did not come back.-- I was not taking this statement seriously until recently. From what we know today, Nota was traveling to NY in 1890 alone. We recently found records in US of two likely matches for Natan's sons. One: Joe Beckerman, son of Natan, born in 1889, and arrived to US in 1904. Second: Hyman Beckerman, son of Natan and brother of Joe, born 1894 (6 month before Natan married Ita) and came to US in 1910. Their mother Nehama Rabinowitz. Nehama might have died at Hyman's childbirth.
